How the Flamingo Tour Works
We depart from the Puerto Sisal dock by boat and navigate to the coastal lagoons where flamingo colonies concentrate. Our guides know exactly where the flamingos are each day — they communicate daily with local fishermen who track the birds' movements. We approach with the motor off, paddling silently to avoid disturbing the flock. Maximum group size is 8 people.
Best Time to See Flamingos Near Merida
Flamingos are visible near Sisal year-round, but peak season is October through March when northern visitors join the resident population, sometimes swelling colonies to over 1,000 individuals. How to Get From Merida to Sisal
Sisal is 48km north of Merida via a well-maintained highway. The drive takes 40-55 minutes depending on traffic leaving the city. We can also help arrange transportation from Merida if needed. The tour typically takes 2-3 hours including boat transit, so it's easily done as a morning excursion followed by a fresh seafood lunch at the port before returning to Merida.
